Experiencing a different culture in an unfamiliar location might fright you in the beginning but with the time being you will become quite comfortable and safe.

One of our students ‘Prateek’ has recently came back to India on his vacations from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), Lithuania and he shared his overall experience including life, safety, food expenses and many more. He talked about his experience personally with our counselor.

Studies and Education

Prateek was a student in VGTU and was studying Master in Structural Engineering. He found VGTU as one of the finest universities with sound technical and civil engineering roots. The university has a commendable list of technical study programs to offer and students from different parts of the world are studying there. VGTU has spacious and well-equipped teaching facilities such as pilot and aerospace labs that make it easy for students to take practical experience.

ERASMUS: Student Exchange Program

In the beginning, it was quite difficult to understand about the opportunities in Lithuania but then I got to know about ERASMUS student exchange program which provides an exclusive opportunity to international students to study their part of education (2nd & 3rd semester) in another country which will also include attractive stipend. The entire expenses will be borne by the government itself.

ESN Network in VGTU

One of the best things which I got to know about VGTU is its ESN network which is known as Erasmus student network. This ensures that students are getting equal opportunities and take cares about the accommodation, food and other facilities of the students. Every college under ERASMUS have their own ESN network to help students.

Lithuanian Culture

Prateek was really impressed with the Lithuanian culture and advised students to go with open mindset as Lithuanians are modern thinkers and very friendly in nature. In the first semester itself, you will be able learn the basic Lithuanian language which would help you to interact with locals more easily. Apart from this, you will also be having an opportunity to learn other languages such as Germany. He loves the food and extremely friendly behavior of Lithuanians. As of now he is having many friends from different parts of the world and he is enjoying studying in Lithuania.

Living Expenses while studying in Lithuania

Prateek is currently living in Lithuania and nobody could better tell us about the actual living expenses.

So, starting with accommodation then it will cost you around 110 Euro in VGTU dormitory which is well furnished and having good ambience to live. In second year when you become much familiar with the place then you can find your own rented place to live which would cost you approximately 60-80 Euros which is quite cheaper than previous one and in short you can save lot of money.

You can expect your accommodation in Lithuania similarly like Bangalore (Indian City) where you can manage everything in INR 25000.

Your food expenses will come around 150-180 EUR in which you can enjoy decent food.

The overall living expenses in Lithuania are roughly 300 Euros in which you can have standard lifestyle. Apart from this, the living cost is totally depends upon your leisure activities.

Generally, the cost of living in Lithuania is very reasonable as compared to western part of Europe as it is quite high 800-900 Euro.

Safety

While going to study abroad, safety is the major concern that comes in mind especially for women as the location as well as people are unfamiliar. But Prateek has clarified our concerns and tell us about the very safe environment of Lithuania.

He told that Lithuania has more women population as compared to men and have majorly women working in buses, restaurant and other parts of the cities.

Along with this, Prateek has advised to stay in groups to international students as they are much likely to be trap in isolated corners.
